Aug 31-2008 Learning to A.I.

I appoligize, I've been MIA on blogging lately. We have been really busy here. We are trying to finish hay chopping, since corn will be ready soon. The weather has been really nice here.

My brother is doing chores at our neighbors for the week. He is kinda working on buying into their farm eventually. They have about 60 cows. His girlfriend Heather and him do all the chores and milking almost all of the time now. Everything except anything to do with the cow's female reproductive parts that is ;) Thats up to us girls, or so he says. I think I've got Heather to do it though. I'm amazed how this "city" girl has taken to farming. I think she is better than my brother at milking.

The other day my bro said there was a cow in heat, so I told him Becky or me would come over after chores. Becky went with Abby to a o.b. doctor appt. So, I went over. I don't mind, I like breeding cows- that sounds kinda weird huh... Anyway, my bro showed me the cow and told me what bull to use. He said I should teach Heather to ai. I thought she would hate this idea, but she was actually curious. He had to go into town for feed, so me and Heather went to work. I loaded the ai gun, and pulled a breeding glove on. I kinda jokinly handed Heather a glove and asked Her if she wanted to try it. She actually said she would if it was ok. So, she stuffed a glove in her pocket. When I learned to AI, the instructor put her arm in the cow with mine, so she could "show me" what I was searching for. This really helped me, so since Heather has small hands, I figured we could try it. Lots of lube is required, and I wouldn't try it on a virgin heifer :)

Heather pulled on her glove, and I told her to push her arm in the cow, and I would follow. This was an un-lucky cow I thought. I pushed my arm in beside hers (And to think my brother is missing this) I found the cervix and showed it to Heather. I introduced the ai gun in the cow, and begun guiding it through the vagina. I got it to the cervix, and asked Heather if she wanted to inject the semen. Ipulled my arm out (much to the cows releif). She explored a little, and injected the semen. I asked her what she thought, and she said its really not that bad. She wants to do the next cow on her own, so well see how that goes.

Aug.19 2008 heifer a.i.

Guess what, the CIDR heifers were in heat today. I've never actually seen anything like it. They were one big group of humping whores. The only problem was they wouldn't go into the head chute, they just stood there. Hence, standing heat I guess.

So, I told Becky to just try and breed them loose. I've done it before, with mixed results. It actually worked this time. I kept loading the ai gun, and Becky kept putting the semen in the heifers. They stood as quiet as could be... until there were two left. Guess who? The crazy *****, and a heifer we didn't put a cidr in because we thought she was too young. But, she was now in heat too.

We finally got crazy cow in the chute. But, everytime Becky tried to enter her, the dumb thing would go down. So, Becky went to her level, litterly. She bred her laying down. She said it was really easy because her repro tract was farther back. Maybe we discovered an easier way to AI? It sure was funny looking though.

And as for the younger heifer. We decided she was big enough, even though we normally breed our heifers quite a bit bigger. Somehow this one became my job to breed. I loaded the gun, pulled on a glove, and "generously" lubed my hand and arm. I figured I better for this one. I tried breeding her loose. She stood still, but when I had to push in her further she would move. Understandable, it probably was pretty uncomfortable. So we got her in the alley behind the head chute, but she wouldn't go any further. I had already loaded the semen in the gun (it was inside my shirt by the way:) , so we didn't have alot of time to mess around. I went up behind her and tried again. This time, it worked.

So, the cidrs seemed to do a good job. We will prob. use them again.

8/17/08 She's pregnant

Checked on our cidr heifers this morning, nothing.

Big news: My older sister Abby is pregnant!!! Her husband mark and her have been trying for a while, so they are both really happy. While milking tonight, I kept teasing her that she should bend over so I could preg test her to be sure she isn't lying... all while pulling on a insemination glove:0
Like that picture in your head...
Yeah, we say anything to each other. They have been going to a fertility doctor and I told her one day that Mark's dick must not work right, so Becky should artificially inseminate you and save some money- she hits pretty hard. I said I would do it myself, but I was just trying to be nice since Becky has smaller hands- she really hits hard!!! (I think I scare her sometimes, heck, I scare myself all the time :)

8/15/08

Still rather cool, loves it!!!!!!

We pulled the CIDRS out of the heifers today. They are getting sick of going through the head chute though. Everyone else seems to dissapear when its time to do anything with them, so its become Kristina and mine's project I guess.

A word of caution when doing this: Stand clear of the heifers back side when pulling out the CIDR. Apparalently, the motion of the cidr comming out of their love hole must trigger a feeling of having to pee, as my little sis found out the hard way. Poor little Kristina, it was really funny though!!!

Now we wait. They should come into heat in the next four days- if it works right.

Aug. 13 2008 Pulling calf

Well, I just got back from helping deliver a calf, that didn't need help beign delivered. Confusing? very. I'll get to this later...

My sister Kristina helped me milk tonight. Shes really a big help. (she just turned 14) She loves everything to do with cows and horses. She has 2 horses. I don't love horses, but I do go for a ride once in a while. We had a visitor tonight when we went to get the cows. Somehow, we aqquired 2 sheep to our herd. I don't know who has sheep around us, but they were really cute.

When we were finishing up with the last couple cows, my brother called. He helps at our neighbors farm. (We don't allow him to touch our cows :) He was milking alone because they were at a seminar. He called saying he thought a cow was calving but nothing happened yet. I asked him how long she had been trying, and he said he noticed her when he started milking. But, nothing had changed. I asked if he had vaginally examined her. (I think he puked because he heard his sister say vagina) But he hadn't checked her- he's afraid of female cow parts I do beleive. He begged me to come take a look. We were done milking, and Kristina wanted to take her horse for a ride. So, she saddled up her pony, and I saddled up my horse and we were on our way.

When we got there, my brother was still milking, but he showed us the cow. She was out in the pasture, but he put her in a maternity pen already. She looked like she was trying to calve. Her tail was up and she would arch her back and push, then lay down. This was a very small cow (Actually a heifer) I thought to be calving even though it was a Jersey. I told my brother to keep milking and us girls would figure this out. I got in the pen and pulled a breeding sleeve out of my pocket. I stuffed a few in there before we left home since I figured it would come to this and didn't want to chance it that the neighbor had any. I pulled it on and went up behind her to do a vag. exam. Keep in mind she was in a maternity pen, but there was still room to move around. Kristina held her tail up and I started going in. She actually stood still pretry well, but was super tight. I couldn't tell if it was because she was so small or that she wasn't calving. I couldn't get in her far enough to know and she wasn't liking my dry glove up her vagina by the way it sounded. (I had brought gloves, but - on any lubricant. So, I sent my lil helper to look around. She came back shortly victorious. (It was an actual tube of ky jelly- I didn't ask where she found it. I squirted some on my hand and resumed my exploration. This time My arm easilly slid in the heifer. Her cervix was dilated pretty good. So, she was either aborting a calf or was actually calving. I continued my exam and went in past her cervix. Sure enough, I felt the calf. I was pretty sure it was dead. I tried pulling it out some, but it was pretty good size. My brother came back to see what all the mooing was about. "your raping that poor cow" he said. You want to do this? i asked. He shut up pretty quick. I lubed her up a little more, and got the calf throough the cervix. I eventually got the pulling chains on. We pulled gently and I went in her and tried to stretch her some every so often. Finally the head emerged, and I'd be damned the calf was alive. We pulled some more and soon there was a little calf on the ground- breathing.
I went in the cow again to check on things, and all seemed well, no tears or anything. I pulled my arm out and stripped my bloody glove off in triumph.

So, this was an excellant end to my day. I don't know how tommorow could be better.

Aug. 10 20088

Today was more normal, if there is such a thing.

We are going to be flushing embryos from a couple of our cows. The technician is from a ways away. She mentioned one of us should learn to do it. She is willing to teach us. Becky is intrestad, so she'll probably give it a try. More to come on this later

I had lesbian anal sex today!!

Did that get your attention??? Well, I kinda actually did...
Being the open person I am, how about I tell you all about it.

When I woke up this morning I had a stomach-ache, like I had to go #2. But heres the thing, I couldn't :o
So, pretty soon I figured I better see what the doctor says. The doctor is actually my aunt Ellen who's a nurse practitioner. She's really nice. I called her office at about 11:00 am, and she said she was booked, but I should come in at 1:00.
I waited- nothing changed, so at 1:00 I went down to her office. The door was locked, but Ellen let me in since she closes at noon on saturdays. (this is starting to sound like a sex story huh :)
She led me to the room, and asked the ussual questions. Then she had me lie back and she felt of my tummy. She told me I was prob. "constipated". Then, she wanted to do an internal check. I didn't care, since she has been my doctor since I was born, and has done physical exams on me before.
Soooo, you prob. know whats about to happen. Yup, the blue rubber glove thing. I pulled my jeans down a little and bent over the table. (this is what a cow feels like I thought when shes waiting to be bred)
Anywho, she inserted her finger in me, felt around for awhile and confirmed her suspicion. All I could think about at the momment was I'm going to need an enema. But, when Ellen pulled her finger out and removed her gloves, she said she could give me a suppository that should do it. She said I could take it home, or she could give it to me now. I really wanted to get this over with since it was saturday, and if I did it at home and it didn't work I'd be screwed. I was also in the position. So, I told Ellen to hit me up :)

She went out of the room to get it. She came back and I resumed the position. She snapped another glove on and soon the suppository followed by a finger was at my butt. She pushed it in, and soon I really had to go.

I can remember mom giving us suppositories when we were little but, I think they were for when we had a fever.
In recap, I did get butt fingered by another female who was actually my aunt, but I feel tons better, so it was way worth it.

08-08-08

08-08-08, thats neat, maybe the world will end?? Prob. not...

80 degrees and gorgeous!!
We chopped hay today. I drive the chopper ussually. We have a claas 900 chopper. We do alot of custom work for other farmers. My dad is pretty busy with that, so the dairy farming is mostly left up to me and my sisters. People ask my dad if he wished he had a son, but he tells them he wouldn't want one with the way we take care of things.
My uncle mike came about 5:00 to take over driving the chopper so I could help Abby milk.

We had a cow down with milk fever. So, we gave her some calcium. By the time we were done milking she was standing!

After milking Kristina and me went over to our heifer farm to put EAZI-BREED CIDRS in a couple heifers. The CIDR is administered vaginally, one per animal, in dairy cows and heifers of appropriate size and age. EAZI-BREED CIDR continuously releases progesterone. Upon removal of the insert seven days later, the drop in progesterone triggers estrus and ovulation. (brings the animal into heat)

Heres the steps:
1. Administer EAZI-BREED CIDR Insert on Day 0
2. Inject LUTALYSE one day prior to the removal of EAZI-BREED CIDR
3. Remove EAZI-BREED CIDR Insert on Day Seven
4. Detect for heat during next four days
5. Inseminate on detected heat

Warning on package:
Women of childbearing age and persons with respiratory problems should exercise extreme caution when handling CIDR and LUTALYSE since undesirable side effects may exist.

??? What side effects??? So,nitrile gloves are a must...

About 2 months ago, our neighbors bull got in with this group of 10 heifers. So, there is a chance some of them could of gotten bred by him. If you insert the cidr in a pregnant animal, they will abort the calf. This can mess up their cycle. Since they "may" of been bred 2 months ago, we decided I should pregnancy check them first. Kristina thinks its the neatest thing when I do this, Don't know why for sure?

We got the group in the headlocks. I pulled a prety pink breeding glove on and lubed it up. (We have sexy pink gloves at our heifer farm by the way) The first heifer was open (not preg.) so Kristina inserted a cidr in her. We went right down the line. After number 9, none were bred yet. (The bull wasn't very ambitious) I started inserting my hand into number 10. All of a sudden, she went bizirk, jumping around and kicking. I put her tail up and went in her farther. The one bad thing about headlocks vs. a chute or palp. rail is the cow is allowed more room to move and kick. I fought her and won, she wasn't pregnant either. Kristina jammed the cidr in the ***** and I told her I'll be back in 8-11 days for a rematch (I'll let Becky sleeve this one I think :)
Anyway, the heifers and the bitch heifer went out to pasture again probably feeling like they had been raped.
Talk later...

Aug. 5 2008

First, with the calving excitement the other day I forgot to say what my sister Becky said the next day after I re-bred the cow the other night. She woke me the next morning (way to early), saying I should breed the cow. I asked if the slut wanted it (an arm up her ass) a third time! :) She kinda looked at me funny, but said she'd inseminated her, but wasn't sure if she got the magic juice in the right spot. Somehow she reached far enough in the cow, but the cow coughed or something when she injected the semen, and her hand slipped from holding the cervix. So, she wasn't sure where it went. So, I told her how the cow was a super slut because she was AI'd by a hooker, and she liked it;) (I think the cow coughed on purpose so she could have me stick my arm up her hoohah again.) I'm glad I dry gloved her, and to think I felt sorry for her. What a slut cow...

Anyway, its cooler, finally. We have 10 cows/heifers to calve within the month. Hopefully it will go better than the other one, even though it turned out ok. Becky is about recovered I think :)

I cut hay mostly today. We got a new haybine this spring, and I'm in love with it. Its my deere baby. Our neighbor looked at it one day and said its def. a chicks machine (There was a un-used tampon in the console :) oops...

Well, thats about it for now. Talk to you soon...

Aug 3 2008 calving

Still hot. When Becky and I went to get the cows tonight we noticed
Two heifers, Flan and Ghost, were in light labor - nothing serious, yet, just wandering around with their tails in the air and a look of bewilderment on their faces. We went back to milk with our fingers crossed that everything would go fine. An hour and a half later my dad rung to say that they'd both broken their water and had feet, and we went flying out there, happy - because there's little that can go wrong at that stage; the calf's in the birth canal, and once you can see the feet you know whether or not it's a breach presentation (the most common bad presentation). But there are still a few things that can go wrong.

Well, guess what.

Flan had hers no trouble - a big, beautiful, healthy little heifer calf - and she took to it instantly, and was being a good mother, something that's always a worry with the first-time calvers. But Ghost didn't progress at all. Nothing but feet. We wern't overly concerned at first, because heifers often take longer than the more experienced cows, but as time went on we got more and more worried.

Becky got up behind her and tried to pull the calf, with no success. She put her hand up into the vagina to check her as much as She dared (She only had wrist length milking gloves with and didn't want to go all the way in without a breeding glove for infection) and felt around, but couldn't feel a head. Becky said ghost was still pretty tight though.

We called mom and explained. "Leave her alone for a bit," she said.

This was reasonable enough. Becky has a reputation - and a bad habit - of getting too anxious to "help" cows calve; Becky likes getting involved. So we went back to the house, still worrying and restless and not at all happy, but trying to convince ourselves that we were just being paranoid. My parents were both trying to convince us of the same thing; I suspect they felt we were being just a little obsessive over the calf thing, as, okay, we probably are. By the time we went back to the field, I think all three of us were pretty well convinced that we were going to find Ghost happily licking off a calf that she'd been able to have once the nosy human stopped poking around in her vagina.

She wasn't. She was exactly as we left her; feet out to the knees, no head in sight.

We brought her in, headgated her, and washed her off enough that it was safe for Becky to go up in her. She put some breeding gloves on and went groping around in her vagina. Everytime Becky pushed her arm in farther, ghost let out a loud moo.

Trying to figure out what's going on inside a cow isn't easy at the best of times; when she's calving, it's a bit like sticking your arm in a sack and trying to figure out what's in there by feel alone, except that everything's very slippery and the sack is trying to squeeze your arm off. "Can you feel a head?" my mom asked.

"No." she groped some more. At one point she even went in ghost's butt rectally to try and get a better feel of the calfs position "I feel a neck."

This was seriously bad news - it meant that we had a head tuck, a relatively rare but unpleasant presentation. In a normal presentation, the nose comes out overtop of the feet, but in a head tuck, the head somehow gets caught on the cow's hipbone as it passes and turns. Once it's in the birth canal there's no room for the head to turn back, but at the same time the birth canal is not wide enough for the head and shoulders to come out together.

There are two ways to fix this. The second is to get a special piece of sharp wire, work it around the calf's neck, and cut the calf's head off.

we were, obviously, not thrilled about that one, so Becky pulled on new gloves and started trying the first one, which is to push the calf back out of the birth canal into the body cavity, which will (theoretically) give you enough room to pop the calf's head back around and then pull it into the birth canal in a proper position. This is not all that easy to do. For one thing, Ghost was fighting her all the way. She is a good girl, and was being pretty tolerant about the whole human-with-hand-up-vagina thing, but once she started pushing she'd had it. As far as she was concerned, she'd worked damned hard to get that calf as far out as it was, and now here Becky was pushing the blasted thing back in. She pushed back with all her strength, which was, needless to say, more strength than Becky had in her entire body.(Becky is shorter than me, but she is stronger, so I was glad she was doing this) Becky had both her arms in ghost at this point.

For another thing, even when she managed to get the calf back into the body cavity, getting hold of its head and pulling it around was absolutely not happening. she couldn't tell, at any given moment, whether she had hold of the thing's ear or its tongue or its neck or had her finger in its bloody eye; everything was insanely slippery; the legs kept flailing around in Becky's way; her arm was being squeezed by what felt like a rabid boa constrictor in becky's words; and Ghost was still determinedly trying to get the calf back into the birth canal, and frequently succeeding. Mom, in the meantime, was saying helpful things like, "Haven't you got it yet?" and "Push on the shoulder. If you were doing it right, the head would be popping right around." I think Becky would have strangled her, except her right hand was pretty well otherwise occupied.

Finally there was a sliding and a kind of "pop" sensation, and Ghost gave an almighty heave, and Becky's arm and the calf's legs both came wizzing out the back end - but with the calf's nose peeping out overtop of them, this time. She pulled of her gloves and we started pulling, and Ghost, valiant little girl that she was, started pushing with all her might. We pulled, but it wouldn't budje. So, Becky pulled on another glove and started pushing extra lube in ghosts vagina. All the manipulation probably dried some of the natural lube off. We were getting a little worried at this point. No sooner than Becky pulled her arm out that ghost gave a big push and the calf was lying on the ground, soaking wet - and shaking its head, and coughing; the damned thing was, for a miracle, alive. Thank goodness for J-lube.

We stood there a minute just getting our breath. Becky pulled her glove off and threw it on the pile of other used ones. 12 total (She went through quite a few pulling this calf, mom and I had a pair on too)

Aug. 2 2008

Really hot is the words of the day. We did chores pretty quick today. We left the cows inside tonight because they are more comfortable inside with the fans on them than outside in the heat. When we were finishing milking I noticed a cow bellering alot. She had some muccous on her tail to- this meant she was in heat. Normally I do most of the artificial insemination, but I had to meet a friend so I told my sister Becky to do it. Becky does the breeding if I'm not around. Shes good at it, but she has trouble on the larger cows since she is pretty short and can't reach in them far enough. I told her to try it if she wanted to because it was one of the bigger cows. Otherwise I would breed her when I got back.
Me and my friend went out to eat and saw a movie. I got home at about midnight. I decided I'd go over to the barn to see if Becky bred the cow that was in heat. I couldn't find any note she had left in the office. So, I took my shoes off and pulled on a pair of boots and checked in the barn. I probably looked like a hooker at this point. I had my knee high barn boots on, a pair of super tight low-rise jeans, and my thong was hanging out from bending over to pull the boots on, and me half drunk, sexy huh. The cow was still very much in heat, and It didn't look like my sister bred her, so I figured I might as well do it and not wake anyone since I was planning on sleeping in, in the morning ;) So, I loaded the insemination gun with the semen and stuffed two breeding gloves in my pocket and headed out to the cow. I pulled on the gloves. I put one on my non-cow butt arm to keep my shirt from getting poo on it, and procceded to push my arm into the cows butt. The cow actually felt like her butt was lubed up already and she was pretty loose. (She felt like she was in good heat in there though). Anyway, I found her cervix, guided the gun in, and injected the semen in her. As I pulled my gloved arm out of her a big glob of muccous came out of her vagina right on my non-butt arm.(good thing I double gloved or my shirt would be ruined) This to meant the cow was really in good heat. I striped my gloves off placing the breeding sheath inside as I did. As I was going to throw the used gloves in the garbage can, I noticed it. Our good friend the cow, had been bred once before. There was a used glove already in the garbage. I thought maybe Becky had pregnancy tested a cow. But then I noticed the sheath in there too. (and there hasn't been any other cows in heat for a while. So, Becky must of bred her too and not wrote it down. No big deal, but the semen costs about 45$ and doing it twice just wastes some money. Its not every cow so lucky as to be inseminated by a hooker though :) What a slut cow...

Aug 1, 2008

Welcome to my new blog. I thought I'd give it a try. Anyway, today was a pretty normal day. We ussually start chores at 6:00 am. The cows really didn't want to come into the barn today. Its been really hot, and they wanted to enjoy the cool morning air I think. We did morning chores and baled some hay before the rain came. My mom, dad, sisters and me all hlp on the farm.My responsibilities on the farm include helping milk, artificial insemination, general herd health and some field work.

I know some people might not know what artificial insemination is. It involves sticking your hand up cows butts to get them bred- not as bad as it sounds though : ) My dad always artificialy bred the cows, but about 3 years ago he hurt his back and was laid up for quite a while. We really don't have any AI technicians in our area that travel from farm to farm since we are in the middle of "nothingness" as my sister says. We really didnt want to get a bull, so someone else was going to have to learn to "get a cow knocked up"(another one of my sisters sayings ;) So, the canidates were my older sister Abby, older sis Becky Younger sis Kristina, mom, or yours truly. First, Kristina is only 12, so nope. Abby wont go near the back of a cow (shes been kicked a few to many times I think) Becky was willing to try it, but she is quite short, and well, we have gigantic cows, so she has alot of trouble breeding most of them. (She's our backup inseminator) So, that left me. I wasn't too short, I wasn't terrified of cows kicking me, and I really wasn't freaked out about shoving my hand up a cows butt. So, the AI instructer came out and taught me how to do it. She was really nice, about my age. She went over everything and we proceeded to the long glove hands on part. I'd watched dad and Becky AI many times, but it was def. a differnt feeling doing it myself. I cant say though that I was at all grossed out.
